I couldnt find much on google, so I am not sure whether it should be on or off. I have a 5. Waht do people think? Thanks for any help rossco. Hi Amis I believe the best way - using the least number of cables to the T. This is all assuming you have a set of separate speaker and aren't using the TV speakers? On a completely different note, for those interested in the issue i was having getting p to from our XBox Slim via amp to TV - I've resolved the problem Issue was actually due to a setting on the XBox itself - Display Discovery.

When disabled, the Screen Format option is available and provides you with or in my case a far greater number of resolution options inc p, p etc I set this to Disabled, which required a reboot of the Xbox, when into Display format and selected p, and low and behold, a p screen appeared.

Xbox then check to see if [email protected] would show - It did, and that was it. So, disabling Display Discovery has fixed the problem regards Gary. I bought a this week after comparing it with the I couldn't see much difference between the specs and nothing that I needed so I went for the and lower price. I'm delighted with it but have one problem. I used it for several hours on speakers without any problems and then switched to headphones Sony wireless.

After a while the Yamaha unexpectedly went into standby. I thought that I must have brushed the remote or something and turned it back on. After a short time it went into standby again so I switched it back on and checked the sleep setting. All OK so I continued listening.

It went into standby for a third time but this time I couldn't switch it back on again. I'd read the manual before setting it up about as well as we ever read manuals when we have new toys and had been careful about things like speaker impedance and stray wires causing a short but it was only when I turned to the troubleshooting section after the problem occurred that I found the bit about the control circuitry, which is intended to protect the unit from overload damage.

Apparently it is three strikes and you are out, after it triggers three consecutive times the Yamaha has to be returned to a dealer for a service check so be warned if your unit unexpectedly goes into standby. When I plugged the headphones in I had to increase the 's volume a lot and that should probably have been a warning but I didn't give it a second thought.

I guess that the headphones are the issue, as I'd had no problems on speakers, but there's no mention of a headphone issue in the manual. I doubt that any serious damage has occurred and there is usually a simple reset procedure for this sort of thing, such as holding one or two buttons down for a few seconds after switching on. I tried turning it right off overnight but no luck. I've seen this problem mentioned in a couple of places on the Internet but haven't come across the solution.

Does anyone know the magic fix so that I don't have to give my new toy back to the dealer for a time? Last edited by a moderator: Jan 8, Gary Thanks for this.

I have 5. I'll try AV5. No they are not. The reason for the optical for SkyHD is that it only transmits stereo over HDMI, you need the optical to get Dolby Digital from any broadcasts that use it, although you are correct in that not every programme is in 5.
